The First Post of hopefully thousands

This is my first post after jumping off the snide and starting another business offering. Many of you who might stumble upon this blog might be wondering why you might send out resume after resume, and you get nothing in return. Not a reply or even a rejection letter.

First, let me tell you that the Internet has created a far different world than you might imagine, a job posting, even a posting for a CEO or rocket scientist might get literally thousands of responses. Secondly, companies do not have the time or personnel to read every resume and respond to them in detail, nor do they have the inclination.

Thirdly, and most importantly most resumes are usual, there is nothing that stands out, and therefore even if they are qualified unless they somehow make the shortest of all stacks they get passed over.

Therefore I have taken the position that unless you have a resume that is absolutely profound, one that is comprised and structured that will immediately gain the attention of the reader the fate of your resume might be almost the same as the fate of my last power ball ticket, very slim to practically none.

Sounds futile and to some degree it is especially if you have a usual resume. The important thing is however a resume is essential and more importantly in these times where the U.S. Economy has lost over 7.2 Million jobs in the last 19 months on top of the almost 4 Million that were already unemployed in the normal business cycle. The trouble is people are expecting their resume to do things it is not supposed to do in the first place.

When responding to an Internet posting first ask yourself if your resume fits the job description exactly, meaning is your most recent job experience what the posting is asking for? Are you overqualified or under-qualified, if you are unless you modify the resume or take a side door entrance into the company chances are slim it will make the short-stack.

Secondly the job posting is probably telling you much more than the company desires the marketplace to know. Many job postings, yes the few that are out there are telling you that probably other positions are on the planning table or open within the company, the trick is for you to get your resume into those hands before the rest of the world finds out. This takes some Sherlock Holmes effort but for many of you if you have some idle time and a little library resources you can probably deduce who to personally send an unsolicited resume to, that is when your resume stands out the most.

Lastly most people hide their accomplishments or don't know how to display them. Accomplishments are things that were done, that made money for the company, that were done as part of a team where objectives were made and profits distributed. Accomplishments are not duties and responsibilities carried out.

Next week I will begin to get more specific as I start breathe life into this new company of mine. If you like give me a call and I will discuss your resume and job seeking efforts personally. Thank you.
